The listing of the train and bus schedules is provided to facilitate your  Mosaic events by providing you with readily available information on bus and train schedules to our more popular hiking destinations. The schedules listed below are a general guide to which of our most hiking and biking destinations are available by train. It is highly recommended that you check with the individual train or bus operator for the most up to date schedule. We have provided direct links to the train and bus operators that can be clicked on below.

 

It is advisable to purchase a one way ticket as it is often possible to obtain a ride back to the City  from drivers attending the event. If there is no one heading back your way, you can ask to be dropped at the most convenient train station or bus stop.

 

If you are riding with someone for a significant time, say a half hour or more, it is a courtesy to offer the driver a share of his expenses for gas and tolls. Drivers have the final say in determining a fair rate for their expenses.

Bikes are permitted on specified trains of Metro North and LIRR.  A bike permit is required.  LIRR bike permits are sold at Penn Station and Metro North bike permits are sold at Grand Central Station for a nominal fee. A LIRR bike permit may also be obtained through the mail by calling (718) 558-8228 (allow two weeks for processing by mail). A Metro North bike permit may be obtained in the mail by calling (212) 532-4900. Contact Metro North and the LIRR to find out which trains bikes are permitted on and any other restrictions.  Bikes are permitted on the subway.
