What is the Mosaic Club?
The Mosaic Outdoor Mountain Club is a non-profit club,
which bring Jewish people together to enjoy the outdoors.
Is it a religious club?
No, is is an outdoors club formed to be accessible
to all Jewish people.
Is it a singles club?
No. Mosaic welcomes both singles and couples. That said, the majority of
members are single. Mosaic provides the opportunity for those interested in
the outdoors to meet in a friendly, non-pressured atmosphere.
What are the ages of the club members?
The club does not
maintain an age register. All active people, regardless of their age are
welcome to participate in club events. The approximate age
range of members is 25 to 70. Club members who most frequently attend
Mosaic events range from their early 30s to mid 50s.
How many men and women show up at your activities?
There is no established male/female ratio requirement at Mosaic events. Activity
attendance may be skewed one way or the other; some events draw approximately equal
numbers. Attend an activity with the attitude that you are looking forward to a day in the
outdoors, to share with existing friends of both sexes; you will not be disappointed.
Questions About Membership
How many members turn out for a typical event?
The attendance at any single event is a function of many factors including activity,
location of the event, the weather, expertise level, cost, day of the weekend and the
whims of the membership. It is recommended that you attend all events that interest you.
How many members does the club have?
The Greater New York Chapter of Mosaic has approximately 200 members.
How long has the MOMC of Greater New York been in
existence?
Since May 1992.
What are the benefits of joining, in lieu of paying the
$10 non-member fee for each event I attend?
The knowledge that you are supporting the
continued existence of a Jewish outdoors club.
While our activities are listed on the web; it does not list
the leader's phone number. That information is available in the
newsletter which is sent to members, quarterly
The club strives to offer at least one event on
each weekend day; if you attend more than three club events in your
membership year (many do), there is of course a financial advantage.

How do I join?
You can join online or print and mail in our membership
application form (click here).
If you prefer not to register online and are unable to print the application
form, call 212-502-0820 and leave your name and address
at the tone.
Specifically request an application form. A club
volunteer will be happy to send one to you. Annual membership is
only $30 for an individual, $40 for a family at the same
address . New people are always welcome
at Mosaic.
Why is membership so expensive? What does it cover?
Our annual membership is
a real value when viewed as the unique opportunity that we provide for
Jewish singles and non-singles to interact while appreciating the Outdoors.
Paid members receive four issues of the Mosaic newsletter, annually. Most
Mosaic events are free to members except joint events with other
organizations. Other organizations that cater to singles often have much
higher membership and event fees.
I'm a member but I haven't been getting my newsletter.
When does my membership expire?
Your membership expires as indicated by the month and year shown on the mailing label.
Questions About Activities
I want to go on this hike but I don't know if the hike
will be too easy too hard. How can I find out?
Check the new trip rating classifications by clicking on Schedule and Trip Ratings.
The level of difficulty are indicated by the letter;
An A rating is easiest and E
is the most difficult. If in doubt still dont hesitate to
call the leader who will describe the skill level necessary for the event.
Can non-members come on hikes or activities?
Yes. Non-members
are welcome as we are always interested in expanding our Club. The
non-member fee is $5 to $10 depending on the location of the event. Usually,
most events are $5 in New York City most events
outside of New York City are $10.
I've been calling a Trip Leader about a hike
but he/she hasn't called me back.
Please be
considerate of our leaders who, like you are people with personal and business
commitments outside of the Mosaic Club. Call early in the week if leaving a message
and call only during the hours designated by the leader. Speak slowly and clearly,
especially when leaving your phone number and don't forget the area code! (Also if
your phone does not accept caller ID blocked phone calls, you may not receive return calls
from leaders who use that feature.)
I live in the
city and don't have a car. Do you arrange carpooling?
MOMC-GNY
does not provide transportation. However, trip leaders will try to match you up with
someone who has a car and is willing to take riders, or else will try to arrange for a
pickup at a train station or bus stop near the hike.

Why don't you
put leaders phone numbers on the website?
To
encourage participants to join the club and receive the newsletter which lists leader's
phone numbers. If you are not a member and would like further information about an event
and want to contact the leader, please call the Mosaic Voice Mail at (212) 502-0820, the
week of the event.
I've been emailing a
leader for a hike but he/she hasn't gotten back to me. What should I do?
If
you don't hear from a leader by e mail. Sometimes the leader may have not opened their e
mail for quite some time or may be experiencing technical problems with their e mail. If
you have the leader's phone number try phoning. |
